Increased Visibility (Local policy may differ) Riders are encouraged to select PPE that incorporates fluorescent colors and retro-reflective material To enhance the ability of other vehicle operators to see and avoid motorcyclists, outer garments constructed of brightly colored, fluorescent or reflective materials are highly recommended.

Based on the type of MC owned or operated, Soldiers are required to complete MC sustainment training within 5 years of completing an ERC/BRC–II or MSRC/ARC which consists of, at a minimum, retaking an ERC/BRC–II or MSRC/ARC. The program is an effort to reduce mishaps, which in the past have negatively affected readiness.
Commanders are encouraged to establish joint training programs with installation and unit commanders of the other Service and local and State motorcycle safety program managers, wherever practical. Training shall be provided to all Sailors within 30 days of the Sailor's request for training. The three levels of motorcycle training are: Level I. Level I courses include: the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) BRC, any State approved curriculum intended to provide novice riders the skills and knowledge needed to obtain a drivers license motorcycle endorsement, any course approved by any of the other Services, or any entry level rider training course approved by OPNAV N09F/COMNAVSAFECEN.
All Sailors who plan to purchase or operate a motorcycle (regardless of their intent to ride the motorcycle on or off base) shall complete level I training prior to operating these vehicles. Additionally, operators of government-owned motorcycles shall complete level I training prior to operating a government owned motorcycle. All riders must complete level I training prior to attending any advanced level motorcycle training.
Level II. These courses are intended to build upon the skills and knowledge that riders obtain in level I courses. The MSRC and Advanced Rider Course are examples of level II courses approved for sport bike riders. The Advanced Rider Course and BRC II are examples of level II courses approved for non-sport bike riders. Level III. These courses are intended to improve the riders' skills and knowledge through a curriculum that includes practice maneuvers conducted at street or highways speeds, challenging cornering techniques and other realistic scenarios conducted in a controlled environment. Examples of level III courses include: the California Superbike School, the Marine Corps' Advanced Motorcycle Operator Course, Total Control and American Super Camp.

All Sailors who operate motorcycles shall complete Level II training within 60 days of completion of Level I training or upon changing the type of motorcycle ridden. Motorcycle operators who are properly licensed and have completed Level I training may immediately enroll in and complete Level II training.
Refresher Training. All Sailors who operate motorcycles shall complete Level II or Level III refresher training every three (3) years. If Level II or Level III training is unavailable any OPNAV N09F/COMNAVSAFECEN approved course may be substituted. Civilian Motorcycle Operator Training. All civilian motorcycle operators who have a current State motorcycle operator license, endorsement or permit are not required to complete any of the above training.
[Back to Top] Air Force Motorcycle Rider Information Training: According to AFI 91-207 dated 12 Sept, 2013, Motorcycle safety training is not intended to meet state, territory, host nation or applicable SOFA licensing requirements. It is the rider’s responsibility to possess a valid motorcycle license, endorsement or riders permit before operating a motorcycle on a roadway, to include travel to and from training location(s).
Initial Training: Conducted Prior to operation of a motorcycle. Intermediate Training: Conducted ideally within 60 days but no later than 1 year after completing initial training. Meet or exceed requirements for initial training. MSF BRC-2, Military Sportbike Riders Course SM (MSRC), Advanced Riders Course SM (ARC), Air Mobility Command (AMC) Sport Bike, or DoD Component defined training. The three levels of motorcycle training are:Level 1: Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) Basic Riders Course (BRC), MSF Dirt Bike school, Lee Parks Basic Course, State-approved curriculum for motorcycle operator's safety training, or any other "entry level" or "true novice" rider training course approved by CMC (SD) that provides· the basic principles and skills of riding required to obtain a state motorcycle endorsement.
Motorcycle riders shall present to his/her unit the original or certified copy of completion card of any MSF BRC or Stateapproved course. All unlicensed motorcycle riders must complete Levell training prior to attending any other advanced level motorcycle training.Level 2: Military Sport Bike Riders Course (MSRC), Advanced Rider Course (ARC), Rider Assessor Course, or any other intermediate or mid level.

All Marine personnel must obtain a valid state motorcycle license or a motorcycle endorsement on their state drivers' license before operating a motorcycle on any street or public roadway in accordance with reference "d" of MCO 5100.
19F.Commanders are encouraged to establish joint training programs with other military installations, local state motorcycle safety offices or local community courses within the installation area when available. Personnel should not be required to wait more than 30 days during the local riding training season to receive training. Commands shall not waive the training requirement. Marines who have completed a Levell course are authorized to operate a motorcycle only if they are licensed (valid state drivers license with a motorcycle endorsement).
Motorcycle safety training shall include the appropriate approved course. New or unlicensed street riders must complete an entry level (Level 1) type of course before proceeding to higher level training. All dirt bike or off-road motorcycle riders must complete appropriate Level I off-road training (e.g. CMC (SD) approved off-road motorcycle course) .All initial or beginner motorcycle training courses must be instructed by certified or licensed personnel.
The course of instruction shall include hands-on training, a riding skills evaluation, and a written knowledge based evaluation. Commanders shall accept the instructor/ridercoach signed completion card from any military or state motorcycle training course that has been approved by CMC (SD). Training shall be documented with a completion card or certificate as proof of successful completion of required basic or beginner training.
Motorcycle Follow-on Training. All Marine motorcycle riders will attend mandatory follow-on Level II motorcycle training within 120 days of completion of Level I course (dependent on the local riding season). The follow-on training must target the type of motorcycle the Marine owns or operates. All Sport Bike riders will attend a Sports Bike type course (e.g. MSF-MSRC); all other motorcycle riders will attend a course designed for experienced riders that targets the specific handling characteristics of the type motorcycle they own.
When a Marine attends a Level 1 course but does not own or operate a motorcycle, the completion of the course shall be recorded into the Marine Corps Total Force System (MCTFS). Within three (3) years at the required refresher training date, if the Marine is still not an active rider, owns or regularly rides, the completion of the Level 1 training and follow on requirements shall be removed from TMS/MCTFS.
Refresher Training. Commanders will ensure motorcycle riders receive refresher training/continuing education (Level II or III) every three (3) years. Refresher training may include the Motorcycle Safety Foundation BRCII, ARC, MSRC, or other advanced motorcycle rider training such as Advanced Rider Track Days, California Superbike School-based training, Total Control-based training or other advanced motorcycle training approved by CMC (SD).
