Class size is limited to 22 riders at New Jersey Motorsports Park in the summer, and 15 riders at Inde Motorsports Ranch during our winter schools.
Individual attention is high because this sport must be specifically taught. Each class will hold a mix of riders, from a first-time beginner to a MotoAmerica participant. We have a majority of street riders attend, but we are very popular with track-day riders and racers. YCRS is an annual stop for some pretty impressive groups too, from the N2 Trackdays owners to the Harley-Davidson engineering staff.
Yep, the HD boys have attended YCRS for the last eight years running…so don’t worry about what bike you ride, worry about how you’re riding that bike! “Life Changing” Those are the words our graduates use when describing their experience at YCRS. We believe motorcycle riding instruction in America has been going down the wrong path for about 30 years now. YCRS is on a Crusade to change how our sport is taught, and those changes will save lives and grow our industry.
Be a part of it. Give us two days. We’ll change your life. LEARN MORE SCHEDULE / ENROLLMENT LATEST NEWS Facebook Feed Yamaha Champions Riding School 1 day ago Downshifting techniques vary. Our very own YCRS Instructor and MotoAmerica SuperBike contender @Kyle Wyman sheds light on the fundamentals:“You always want to get the brakes on when slowing, even if it’s just 1%.
A downshift will give you some engine braking, which is a form of braking, but will not give you the geometry and contact patch in the front that provides grip and quicker change of direction. Downshifts will start to happen in the first 10% of the brake zone - even if that brake zone only requires you to bleed off a couple MPH”. - Kyle Wyman ... While in solitary confinement, he played himself in mental chess, saying: ‘I might as well use the opportunity to become the world champion!’ Remarkably, in 1996, Sharansky beat world champion chess player Garry Kasparov!” - Psychology Today. What does this have to do with riding motorcycles? EVERYTHING.We can both practice AND improve our riding while not on our bikes. Champ School has always taught what the best riders in the world are doing.
Well, here is what they are doing along with every other top athlete ... They are utilizing visualization and mental rehearsal as part of their training. But you don’t have to be an elite athlete or champion rider to have this help improve your motor control, focus, perception, planning, and memory. We can ALL benefit from this practice. So HOW does this work?“When you imagine yourself performing a task, your muscles contract as though you're actually doing it.
The contractions are so small, you can't feel them, but it's enough to strengthen your muscle memory," says Nicole Detling, Ph.D., an assistant professor of kinesiology and sport science and a sports psychology consultant to Olympic athletes. So in other words, when you visualize yourself riding, you are doing a pseudo physical practice that is building your motor skills and allowing you to practice your techniques in a safe environment rather than at speed.
The practice of visualization doesn’t only create new neural pathways which prime the body to act in a way that is consistent to what we imagine, training the alignment of our mind and body, but it also builds the “focus muscle”. Watch your mental endurance increase with a practice of visualization. How many times does your mind wonder when you visualize yourself running one single lap in your head? Can you run a perfect lap in your head? Can you run consecutive perfect laps in your head? Stick with it and build that endurance to stay focused, stay present, and to remove the inner critic of your mental lap.
If you missed your apex on your mental lap, can you start your lap on your next apex? If you can’t or your did a mental turn around on the track, how does that help/hurt you when you are physically on track? So HOW do you begin visualization (we will be posting other techniques so keep checking back, but here is a quick start guide)? The nice thing is it costs no money, it requires no equipment and it is pretty simple.
..- Find a quiet spot and make yourself comfortable (avoid laying down so you don’t become so comfortable that you fall asleep)- Start in turn 1 and run a lap. Where do you shift? Where do you turn in? Where do you go to the brakes? How do you go to the brakes? Where do you pick up the throttle? Where are your eyes?- Bring in as many senses as possible. What does the bike sound like? What do you see as you look forward and scan back? How does your body feel? Are your hips open and your hands relaxed? Can you feel the inside of your “outside” arm across the tank? Are you engaging your core? Are you sitting back off of the tank? Visualize your foot position on the foot peg? Where are you holding tension that you can release? Witness how you are breathing as you run your mental lap? Are you holding your breath where you struggling?Run it right.
Take your time. Your first time doesn’t have to be a race. Remember you are building and/braking habits to create proper technique in your mind that will translate to what your body does when you throw your leg over your bike. And Follow ChampBody for Visualization Videos coming soon#visualization #mentalrehersal #ChampBody #JennPeris #YCRS #ChampSchool #FasterSafer #mindbodybike #motorcyclesforlife .
